Description:
This ornament that looks like a six-petaled flower has been called a “faceted sexfoil” style by archaeologists in London. The motif became common for leather decoration by the mid-1300s (Egan and Pritchard 1991). Early examples usually had a separate rivet rather than the integral tines of this example, however. This is most likely a 17th-century example, indicating that this motif persisted for several centuries.
